Tamarind

Originating from East Africa, tamarind has gradually spread across the semi-arid and tropical regions of the world. Its magnificent leafy branches offer the perfect shady spot for siestas or discussions between local wise men, hence its reputation as a sacred tree in some areas of Africa. While its foliage may help to soothe the mind, all tree parts have recognized therapeutic benefits (antiseptic, digestive and febrifuge properties). In the culinary field, the tangy pulp in the brown pod of the tamarind fruit is used to make refreshing drinks.
